What you should have in mind and how to make LUTs work with your footage?

Firstly, determine if the LUT is designed for conversion (e.g. LOG to Rec.709) or for creative color grading (e.g. to create a specific mood or style). Some LUTs are designed to be applied directly to LOG footage, while others are intended for use on already converted footage. Sometimes you might notice that an intensity of the LUT can be overpowering, so consider adjusting contrast, shadows, highlights and vibrance values of your video first. Basically your image should be properly exposed before applying the LUT. Then consider adjusting the opacity/strength of the LUT to achieve a more subtle effect.

Secondly, remember that even with a good LUT, you may need to make further adjustments to the color grading to ensure it aligns with your creative vision. Adjusting secondaries (e.g. color balance, shadows, highlights) can help fine-tune the look and feel of the footage after applying a LUT.
